QUESTION:

Hi there my name is Dylan I’m currently living in south Africa….I really want to become an American police officer its always been my dream … and no one can answer Me … I’m 17 and a grade 10 student please help me.

ANSWER:

One of the requirements to become a police officer is you have to be a U.S. citizen or U.S. National. We’d suggest you apply for U.S. citizenship and study criminal justice or take law classes. Taking those classes could open up other career choices and retirement opportunities such as a lawyer or attorney. We’d also suggest looking into a possible career as a firefighter, in fact some police departments here in the U.S. are considered Public Safety Departments where their police officers and firefighters rotate jobs every 6 months.

Good Luck!
