QUESTION:

I was wondering, if you run someone’s name and it comes back to a warrant, do you have the info to tell you what the warrants are for? And what is protocol when the person in question tells the officer that they have already been arrested and have taken care of these particular warrant/s? Do you officers have access to be able to verify that or do you just detain them and let booking deal w it?

ANSWER:

If you run someone’s name and it comes back to a warrant, do you have the info to tell you what the warrants are for?

– Yes – that information is displayed on the computer in the vehicle or is told over the radio

And what is protocol when the person in question tells the officer that they have already been arrested and have taken care of these particular warrant/s?

 – Normally you have to go off what is in the computer or what is told over the air. It is the responsibility of the person with the warrant to make sure all of the details are taken care of by the Courts / DMV etc.

Do you officers have access to be able to verify that or do you just detain them and let booking deal w it?

– We only have what we have and in most cases details are not available on payments or cleared warrants. Then it will depend on how the officer handles it based on what details they have. It could be a another citation, it could be a detention or an arrest. This also matters as to where you are located and local, state and federal rules.
